Mouse mover not working on Mac?
Most failures come from one of four places: the app is paused, user activity keeps resetting its timer, macOS permission is missing, or the build is incompatible with the Mac.
Start with this 60-second check
- Confirm the app says it is running.
- Choose a short test interval, such as five seconds.
- Take your hands off the keyboard, mouse, and trackpad.
- Watch the countdown reach zero.
- Confirm the pointer changes position.
Mouse Sentinel intentionally restarts its countdown whenever it detects real mouse or keyboard activity. Testing while moving the pointer or typing can make a working app appear stuck.
Check Accessibility permission
Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. Find the trusted mouse mover and enable its switch. If the app was already listed, turn access off, turn it back on, and reopen the app.
Moving or replacing an app after granting permission can sometimes require macOS to recognize the current copy again. Keep the app in Applications rather than repeatedly launching it from Downloads or a disk image.
Read the app’s status carefully
Mouse Sentinel separates its running state from its permission state. A countdown can run even if macOS has not allowed pointer control. Look for the Accessibility indicator in the window. The app performs a tiny move-and-restore test to verify that actual movement succeeds.
Confirm Mac compatibility
The current Mouse Sentinel direct build requires macOS 14.0 or later and is compiled for Apple silicon. To identify your processor, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. A Mac showing Apple M1, M2, M3, M4, or a later Apple-series chip is Apple silicon; an older model may show an Intel processor.
An incompatible binary may fail to open rather than merely fail to move the pointer. Check the publisher’s current requirements for any other mouse mover.
Check managed-device restrictions
Work and school Macs can use device management to control installations, Accessibility permission, energy settings, and screen locking. If a setting is unavailable or immediately reverts, contact the administrator. Do not attempt to work around enforced controls.
Movement happens, but the Mac still sleeps
Pointer movement and sleep prevention are related but not identical. Mouse Sentinel requests idle display and idle system sleep prevention while active, but lid-close behavior, low-battery behavior, system updates, organization policy, and third-party software can still affect the result.
Keep a MacBook lid open for a normal portable setup and connect power during long jobs. If the workflow only needs sleep prevention, compare macOS settings and caffeinate before adding cursor movement.
Movement is too frequent or distracting
Increase the interval. Mouse Sentinel supports any whole-second value from 5 to 60 seconds. Because actual user input resets the timer, the app should wait until you stop interacting before beginning another full countdown.
